"Regional Health Research Systems at the Helm of the PNHRS: Convergence in Divergence" will be the central theme of this year's 3rd Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week, which will be held on August 12-14, 2009 at the Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City.
The celebration will start with a Mindanao Forum on August 12, followed by capacity building sessions on August 13 open to all stakeholders in health research.
These parallel sessions will be on the regional research agenda, intellectual property rights and technology commercialization, ethics and ethics review, marketing research to healthcare providers and policymakers, journal publishing, and research registries. Another event highlight is the Poster Exhibit/Young Researchers' Forum (and Contest) with the theme, "Community empowerment through health research".
On August 14, the plenary session will feature a panel discussion on the research loop, with resource speakers coming from the funders, international development organizations, and local government units (LGUs). Awarding of PNHRS Best Mentor and Poster Exhibit winners takes place before the Closing Ceremonies.
The PNHRS was formally launched on March 17, 2003 through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DOST Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro and then Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Manuel M. Dayrit. Two major pillars, the CHED and UP-NIH, joined the System in 2007.
In 2007, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Proclamation No. 1309 declaring every second week of August as the PNHRS Week.
