The CHRDC-Capacity Building Committee (CBC) successfully conducted a three-day Basic Research Methods Training cum Research Proposal Development Writeshop for health researchers of Caraga last June 3-5, 2019.
The training aimed to equip health researchers of the consortium member institutions to develop well-constructed research proposals that are in line with the standards and guidelines set by the consortium. A total of 25 trainees participated in comprising faculties and staff from different state university colleges (SUCs), higher education institutes (HEIs) and government agencies of the region. Dr. Ofelia P. Saniel, professor emeritus from UP Manila with expertise in public health and epidemiology and Ms. Karen B. Burdeos of the Center Director of Mathematical and Statistical Computing and Research Center (MSCRC) of Caraga State University were the resource persons.
The training covered 12 various topics in research proposal development. The topics discussed include epidemiologic and experimental studies, sampling designs and how to write an effective research proposal. As an output, the participants were able to collectively produced ten capsule research proposals. These proposals were presented during the plenary session. The trainees also developed an appropriate study design corresponding to the research objectives that they have formulated. The lectures were supplemented with workshops.
Ms. Lyra A. Viajar, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Caraga supervisor and CHRDC Capacity Building Committee chair ended the training with a warm message to the participants, inspiring them to continue to pursue health research.
All of the capsule research proposals will be evaluated by the Research Management Committee (RMC) if it is aligned with the regional research priorities.
