Seven out of the 33 researchers were awarded the “Most Ready to Publish Paper” during the 13th National Medical Writing Workshop and 6th Writeshop for Young Researchers on 8-9 January 2018 at The Oriental Hotels and Resorts, Legazpi City, Albay. The award is given to participants whose papers are organized, well-written, and have the greater potential to get published in peer reviewed journals.

Winners for this batch were from the National Capital Region, Region 3, Region 4A, and Region 11, as follows:  Ms. Amalea Dulcene Nicolasora of the Department of Health-Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, Ms. Mary Grace Pelayo of the Department of Health, Ms. Lozel Villadore of the Manila Doctors Hospital, Ms. Iza Donna Togbo of the Philippine Women’s University, Mr. Aaron Carl Tejano of Mabalacat City College, Dr. Norbel Tabo of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, and Ms. Maria Catherine Otero of the Davao Medical School Foundation, Inc., who received tokens and certificates along with the recognition.

The Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, in partnership with the Philippine Association of Medical Journal Editors (PAMJE) and Asia Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors (APAME), conducts the writing workshop twice every year to help young researchers in health sciences acquire practical knowledge and writing skills in  developing scientific articles for publications in scholarly peer-reviewed journals.

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) in collaboration with Japan International Collaboration Agency (JICA) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for 2018 Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) in Infectious Diseases Control field..
The application period for research proposals is from September 12, 2017 (Tues) to October 30, 2017 (Mon) at 12:00 noon (Japan Time).

Based on the needs of developing countries, AMED and JICA cooperate to promote international joint research targeting global issues*1 with an objective of future utilization of research outcomes*2. Implemented through collaboration with ODA, the aim of the program is to acquire new knowledge and technology that lead to the resolution of global issues and the advance of science and technology, and through this process, to create innovations. International joint research under this program also aims to enhance the research and development capabilities of developing countries, and helps create sustainable research systems able to address and resolve issues.

*1 Global issues:
Issues that are difficult to resolve by a single country or region acting on its own and that need to be handled by the international community as a whole.

*2 Utilization of research outcomes:
The research projects should lead to future social and economic benefits, achieved by using newly obtained technology and knowledge to enhance government services or to develop products that can be deployed in the market.

Proposals for FY2018 are invited in the following research fields: Environment/Energy (2 research areas), Bioresources (1 research area), Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (1 research area). Up to FY2015, the SATREPS Invitation for Research Proposals included the Infectious Diseases Control field. From FY2016, projects in this field are handled by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED).
