"Converge @ PNHRS!" will be the central theme of this year's Second Annual Philippine Health Research System (PNHRS) Week, which will be held on August 11-15, 2008.
The week-long celebration's focus will be on strengthening networking and convergence within the PNHRS with an objective to have a better appreciation of the different PNHRS stakeholders; to improve coordination, networking, sharing and exchange of information in between PNHRS Committees, regional consortia and other networks within the System; and to have a better PNHRS framework of cooperation.
The PNHRS Week will showcase capacity building programs on August 13 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Manila open to all stakeholders in health research. These programs include parallel training sessions on research article writing, writing policy briefs and proposal development in accessing research funds from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the University of the Philippines - National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH).
The PNHRS National Assembly, to be held on August 14 also at the Pan Pacific Hotel, will include a panel discussion on Convergence, Collaboration and Networking, the launching of the Best Regional Consortium, and a Networking Bazaar featuring booths about the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA), Network of Training Centers, the PNHRS Bill, PNHRS Registry, the Western Pacific Region Index Medicus (WPRIM), the Institutional Ethics Review Board Database, and the Asia Pacific Statement on Strengthening the National Health Research System.
The PNHRS was formally launched on March 17, 2003 through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DOST Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro and then Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Manuel M. Dayrit. Two major pillars, the CHED and UP-NIH, joined the System in 2006.
In 2007, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA) signed Proclamation No. 1309 declaring every second week of August as the PNHRS Week.
