Understanding equity and equality in health

Health Equity, raised among CVHRDC members

“The absence of avoidable or remediable differences among groups of people, whether those groups are defined socially, economically, demographically or geographically.” (World Health Organization) shared First speaker, Dr. Reygene M. Caratiquit to the participants of the 4th Annual Health Research Conference in ISU-Cauayan City, November 27, 2018.

Municipal Health Officer Dr. Caratiquit of Dinapigue, Isabela distinguished the difference between health equality and equity.

“Equity is giving everyone what they need while Equality is treating everyone the same”, quoted Dr. Caratiquit.

Moreover, he encouraged the participants to as well apply equity in their researches by giving more urgency to conduct R&D to the people who are deprived of comfort and health services particularly in the challenged areas.
