The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) is pleased to announce the search for the Best Mentor in Health Research Award for the year 2013.

The award aims to recognize excellence in mentorship that instills passion among researchers resulting to enhanced relevance and productivity in health research. It also aims to reward mentors who have built the capacities of researchers in the health sector which led  to significant advances in the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) thrusts as identified in the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA).

R & D Activities

  1. Conducted Technical review of proposals submitted for funding under RRF.
  2. Three (3) proposals from MSU were granted financial assistance in the total amount of Php 600,000.00.
  3. Conducted Strategic Planning Workshop on November 26-29, 2012 in GSC.
  4. Crafted the Strategic Plan for CY 2013-2015 and the Action Plan for CY 2013.

Capacity Building Activities

  1. Sent three (3) participants from the member-agencies of HRDC XII to attend the Training on Animal Care and Utilization at UP NIH in September 2012.
  2. Three participants were oriented  and trained by UP NIH applying the  laws that govern the use of animals in research. They became knowledgeable about ethical issues in the conduct of research involving animals which the consortium can now refer to when evaluating proposals.
  3. Sent five (5) participants from HRDC XII to attend the PNHRS Assembly last August 2012 in Manila.
  4. Participants were able to interact with the representatives from other consortia throughout the country. They were also clarified on the operations of the consortium and encouraged them to submit proposals and support activities of the consortium that will redound to their own benefits.

  1. Disseminated information for Call of Proposals for submission to HRDC XII
  2. Health researchers submitted capsule proposals to avail of the DOH funding support which was coursed through the PNHRS/PCHRD-DOST.

The Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology – ARMM (DOST-ARMM), facilitated the 3-day ARMM Health Research Consortium Re-Orientation Meeting and Strategic Planning Workshop on December 17-19, 2012 at the El Manuel Convention Center, Cotabato City. The event, which aims to update and revitalize the consortium for it to address the current health situation and be more responsive to the health R&D needs in the region, was attended by stakeholders from the academe, health institutions, and the line agencies as well as the Office of the Regional Governor.

The Zamboanga Consortium for Health Research (ZCHRD) is now accepting entries for the “1st Health Research Writeshop” exclusive for Region IX Researchers.

The writeshop will be from February 27-March 01, 2013. For this maiden workshop, 24 entries will be selected for presentation and comments. Promising research proposals will be recommended for prospective funding.

Interested applicants are required to submit a concept paper on health research of not more than five pages. The concept paper shall include abrief introduction, a problem statement, and objectives, statement of significance, methodology, and a preliminary review of literature.

Deadline for submission is on February 09, 2013. Qualified applicants will be notified immediately after. Please submit your entries under a pseudonym together with 2 letters of recommendation, a 2x2 picture, a short resume and your real name in a sealed envelope to:
